 Activity
Skilled Writers
Unskilled Writers
Prewriting
Start by thinking about the writing task, research/read up the topic, make notes, construct a thesis, brainstorm, and draw up an essay map or sketch/outline.
Do not spend time on planning. Lack strategies for planning and structuring the essay.
Writing/ Drafting
Utilize information compiled at the prewriting stage.
Possess adequate linguistic resources to produce a coherent piece of writing.
Review what they have written in order to stimulate further writing, monitor progress, and solve writing problems.
Engage in writing the essay at once and refer to the topic for inspiration.
Do not have sufficient linguistic resources to produce a coherent piece of writing.
Hardly review what they have written. Lack good monitoring and problem solving strategies.
Revising
